Yamato Hit by Bomb While Transiting the Sibyan Sea, October 1944

During the 3-day battle, Yamato is hit by a total of about 7 armor-piercing bombs.
Yamato avoids torpedo attacks, most of which are concentrated on her sister, Musashi, which is sunk.

Yamato ships 3000 tons of water as several bombs penetrate the deck and blow out holes in the sides of the ship on the way to Leyte (Note the blow of smoke coming out sideways in the photo.)

A 5 degree list to port develops but is corrected by counter-flooding the 'blisters' along the starboard side of the ship, righting her to a 1 degree list. Down slightly at the bow, she continued onward. Source: IJN Yamato Record of Tabular Movement, linked on index page.

This photo was taken Oct 26, 1944, when Yamato was returning home.
